Antique Couch Sofa Repair Examples
- BEFORE -
This time, we will introduce an example of repairing an antique couch that was completely covered in paint.
As you know, DIY (do-it-yourself) has long been a part of life in many European households.
The couch we bought this time was also covered in paint as a result of that DIY project, ruining the beautiful wood grain...

Peel off the existing green fabric.
When the seat fabric and cushion are removed, the coils underneath remain in their original condition.
Even though we say "back then," it was probably reupholstered about 20 years ago, so it is simply being maintained in the traditional way.
Use a paint remover to quickly remove the surface paint...
It feels so good to see the thick layer of paint peeling off with the paint remover.
It took quite a bit of time from stripping to washing to sanding (sandpaper).
Once the stripping is complete, beautiful birch wood is revealed.
I don't have a close-up photo of the surface, but the picture was more beautiful than I imagined.
To really enjoy the natural look of the wood, I think the best way to paint it is by allowing a pigment-based stain to soak into the wood, which is good for both the wood and the environment.
Well, this color is what comes to mind when you think of the Biedermeier style...
We will apply a base color of Golden Pine Color and then begin the actual painting.

Beautiful and restored.
The elegant appearance of the building makes it hard to believe that it was painted before.
I like the simplicity that is typical of the Biedermeier style.
It's a style that's rarely seen in Japan, but I like it.
