Because it was used as a flower stand, the wood has rotted and peeled off due to water seepage from spraying water and condensation.
Once this happens, it is nearly impossible to reuse the decorative veneer.
You will need to either re-apply the entire thing or replace the damaged parts.
In addition, the decorative veneer on the round edges has peeled off and is missing in places.
This time, we will add new decorative veneer to the edges and repair the center by decorating and reinforcing it with brass plate to prevent future water damage.
First, we start by replacing the missing veneer.
Before applying the veneer, we correct any misalignment of the tabletop itself and fix it in place.
The large damage in the center is not covered with decorative veneer,
Since the solid brass plate will be fitted into a square , we dug down to accommodate the brass plate and prepared the base.
Next, the surface paint is stripped and sanded.
As shown in the photo, we adjust the base of the missing area and then fit each veneer into place.
The severely corroded area seen at the front of the tabletop is rubbed with an iron, melting the glue underneath, and smoothed out.
Because the corrosion was severe, we carefully re-pasted it and spent a considerable amount of time smoothing the surface before finishing.
--AFTER The overall restoration is complete, but the center part still has serious damage from burn marks and water stains, so a brass plate will be fitted and it will be processed so that it can continue to function as a flower stand as before .
A 30cm square piece of solid brass is fitted into the centre and the piece is complete.
This is a before and after photo of the same part, but it has been completely renovated.
The cause of corrosion of this type of decorative veneer is lack of maintenance and failure to wipe off water using a spray bottle, etc.
It will require stricter management in the future.
